In the end of April, V Varen Nagasaki met Kagoshima United FC at home here in Nagasaki and many GP fellows including exchange students from Italy, South Korea, and Taiwan joined as volunteers.

This match was named as “The V-Varen Last Game in Heisei Era,” then all the volunteer students put the guts into running force from very early in the morning. Some played good job in logistics, some in garbage-collecting, and some in welcoming visitors at the dedicated booth commemorating the V-Varen history in Heisei Era.

After long-hour task under the sun, everybody got exhausted but more excited to feel the air and blast of the game, which was like a festival.

Furthermore, each student volunteer learnt that there were many people and tasks to support to make it happen, which must turn out to be good lesson for them to organize and facilitate GP events in the future!

Welcome Party

Nagasaki “Glocal” Alliance Project (GP) held GP welcome party for freshmen and GP newly joined students!

Voila! There came over 160 students joined, which was almost same number as last year’s welcome party!

In the beginning, GP leader students presented and explained GP briefly both in Japanese and English, then moved on to the icebreaker activity; “Let’s get to know fellows whose nationality is different from your!”

Participants’ nationalities varied from Algeria, Egypt, Canada, China, Japan, Malaysia, Netherlands, South Korea, South Sudan, Taiwan, Thailand, UK, and Vietnam. Given this diversity, it must have been quite easy for people to create cosmopolitan friendship.

Next came the game “Birthday Line-Up,” which is GP’s typical and popular ice breaker activity but at this party, everybody had hard time smoothly lining up… No wonder there were bunch of people jammed in a tiny venue. Eventually all’s well that ended well since these youngsters were all genius of enjoying everything and making fun of chaotic situation.

After being warmed up enough, participants got deeply into mingling as they liked for the rest of time. Unfortunately, time flew so fast and we had to wrap up all the buzzing.

GP hopefully heard some ideas and expectations on GP upcoming activities from many participants. These are fruits that GP leader student members could get!

Thank you all for coming!!

Here in Nagasaki, there is a cruise ships doc at Matsugae Pier and many international cruise ships call at this port every year.

Then, GP regularly recruits volunteer guide interpreters for cruise ship passengers, upon taking on a request from Nagasaki city who manages the cruise ship port call schedule.

Cruise ship passengers are given certain amount of time to disembark and travel around a destination’s tourist attractions once a ship drops in a port. In this regard, volunteers who can eligibly understand both Japanese and a native language of passengers help tourists by giving them a briefing and tips on where and how to go sightseeing.

In the beginning of April, just before the new semester schedule got in full swing, 4 exchange students of Nagasaki Univ. from Taiwan welcomed a cruise ship from their home country after preparing information about tourist sites and studying a map and how to use tram cars.

This volunteering opportunity seemed to bring back memories to students by talking in their mother tongue and they enjoyed a lot interacting with people from their homes.

For another few months as well, many cruise ships from Taiwan is to be scheduled to call. GP continues to be wanting many energetic international students as well as Japanese fellows who wants to try Chinese proficiency!
