活動報告（協働）

昨年度に続き、今年も野母崎中学校での授業にボランティアで参加しました。

初めて野母崎へ訪れる留学生たちは、「夫婦岩」や「軍艦島」、きれいな海など素晴らしい景色に感動しながら野母崎中学校へ向かいました。

中学校に着くと、校長先生をはじめ先生方や児童生徒のみなさんが温かく迎えてくださり、校内見学をしながら児童生徒のみなさんと早速打ち解けることができました。

授業はまず中学生の英語の歌でスタート！「パプリカ」を英語で元気に歌ってくれました。その後、グループに分かれて「福笑い」でアイスブレーキング。「Right！Right！Down！Okay!!」と英語で目や口の位置を教え合いながらワイワイ盛り上がり、その後の自己紹介でも自分の好きな食べ物や夢の話を英語で伝えてくれました。留学生からの英語での質問に、途中上手くコミュニケーションがとれないこともありましたが、そんなときにはジェスチャーも使いながら一生懸命伝えようとする中学生の姿が印象的でした。

お互いに十分仲良くなったところで、野母崎中学校の生徒自慢の野母崎紹介が行われました。事前に授業で調べたりまとめたりした野母崎地区の観光名所や食べ物などについて、フリップを使いながら英語や日本語で紹介をしてくれました。

留学生は中学生の説明を聞きながら、「場所はどこですか？」「どんな魚が釣れますか？」などたくさんの質問をして、野母崎のまつりや歴史、自慢のレストランなど多くのことを教えてもらいました。

2時間ほどの活動でしたが、留学生、中学生ともに「もっと知りたい！もっと話したい！」という気持ちは高まったようで、別れを惜しみながら中学校をあとにしました。

昨年に続き今年も実現したこの活動を通して、それぞれの語学に対する学習意欲や異文化への理解が高まることを願っています。

野母崎中学校のみなさん、お世話になりました！！

By popular demand by Nomozaki junior high school which held the exchange meet-up gathering for its students and Nagasaki Uni’s international fellows last year, the junior high school willingly invited some this year again!!

GP deployed 4 international members to this initiative, consisting of various backgrounds such as Algeria, China, Nigeria, and Zambia. Since this was the first time for most of this delegate member to trip far down of Nagasaki peninsula, as reaching to south on the way to Nomozaki, they enjoyed the scenery of coastal area and got excited to see “Meoto-iwa (Married Couple Rocks)” and “Gunkanjima (Battleship Island).” As an aside, the weather was perfectly on their side, so about an one hour single trip drive itself was quite like a fun hung out.

Upon arrival, the school principal and many teachers extended a warm welcome to volunteer students and the vice-principal even took them around the brief school trip where pupils ran up exclaiming in delight to the volunteers.

The interacting session then started right away after the volunteer delegate entered in the venue and then followed many attractions filled with pupil’s ideas and hospitality; a welcome song to reacquaint with each other, “Fukuwarai” game which is a traditional Japanese game as an icebreaker, self-introduction, and pupils’ presentations on Nomozaki. As far as today’s youngsters including volunteer fellows are tech-savvy, they took good advantage of using i-pads for further understanding of each other’s culture. 

Two-hour class flew so fast but we had to say good-bye. 

While being hard to farewell for both pupils and volunteer students (and teachers as well!), they called it a day, wishing to see again not before too long.

活動はとてもおもしろくてワクワクするものでしたし、生徒たちの積極的な姿勢には感動しました。生徒のなかでも、台本を見ずに自信をもって、ときにアドリブをきかせながら英語で話す子もいれば、恥ずかし気に、でも頑張って話す子もいました。（ザンビア人男子学生）／The experience was awesome and refreshing. The pupils were so impressing to interact with. I could see some very confident, talked freely without looking at scripts while others were timid. (Zambian male student)

新型コロナウイルスの影響にも負けず、長崎の一大イベント、ランタンフェスティバルが盛況のうちに幕を閉じました。同フェスティバルでは、長崎青年会議所が実施する「手作りランタン体験コーナー」という体験型イベントが各週末に開催されていましたが、今年度はGPからも2名のミャンマー人留学生メンバーが同イベントのお手伝いとして参加しました！ 

日本人の友達を作って、もっと日本語を話したいという気持ちから参加した同メンバーは来日して1年ですが、長崎大学での普段の工学研究のかたわら日本語の習得にも熱心に取り組んできました。青年会議所の皆さんや、同じくボランティアとして参加した日本人学生、また体験コーナーに立ち寄ってくださった多くの観光客や市民の方との触れ合いを通して、その目的が達成できたと満足気でした。また、この体験コーナーというイベントが、老若男女さまざまな人が楽しめるように運営されていることに、母国ミャンマーには無い新しい発見だったと話してくれました。

Despite the outbreak of the new coronavirus here and there, one of the most attractive features of Nagasaki, “Lantern Festival” went on a high note. 

At the festival, the Junior Chamber International Nagasaki ran “Handmade Paper Lantern Workshop” and two GP member students from Myanmar attended as volunteers to help successfully make this workshop happen! 

These Burmese girls are very enthusiastic about studying Japanese and their motivation to make new friends drove them to participate in this initiative. They were also impressed at how exciting and well-planned this workshop was in the aspect of an event where men and women of all ages can actively participate.

長崎の青年会議所が毎年開催している、病気と闘う子どもたちへのチャリティー型イベント、「サンタ・ラン（SANTA RUN）」が行われ、参加者が無事にスタートからゴールまで完走できるよう、コース上での誘導や応援の声掛けを行う等、GPからも数名の学生がボランティアとして活動しました。

12月らしい肌寒い一日でしたが、お天気に恵まれ、走者（本イベントでは、「歩く」のももちろんOK！）としてたくさんの家族連れや若者が参加し、長崎市繁華街一帯はサンタの格好をした人々で華やぎました。もちろんボランティア参加学生らもサンタの装いでイベントの運営をお手伝い。本イベントのボランティア活動は、毎年学生らに人気で、ボランティア参加をリピートする学生もいれば今年が初めてという学生を含め、60名近くの学生が参加。なんとなく「面白そうだから」「友人に誘われて」という理由で参加を決めた学生の多数は実際に活動してみて、クリスマスの時期も病院で闘病している子どもがたくさんいるという現実に思いを致せることや、間接的だとしてもそういった子どもたちを笑顔や元気にするお手伝いができたことに深い意義を感じ、「ただ楽しい」以上のものをそれぞれに掴んだようです。

多くの人を巻き込み、楽しみながら社会の役に立てるという大規模なイベントの中でも成功している一例が本イベントと言えるかもしれません。闘病中の子どもたちの笑顔が増えるよう、来年も再来年も続いていってほしいです。

長崎大学の留学生として、長崎の地域社会で行われている色々な活動に関わり、長崎市民の生活の一部を体験したくて、参加しました。　～（中略）～　僕ができることで長崎の人たちの役に立ったり、逆に、頑張っている子供たちのおかげで自分にとっても、力になりました。（韓国人男子留学生）

特別養護老人ホームサンハイツで行われた「ありがとうフェスタ」、昨年も留学生がたくさん参加させてもらい、利用者の方々が学生らとの交流を大変喜ばれたとのことで、今年も学生たちにボランティア参加を呼び掛けてくださいました。

今年はGPから4名の留学生を含む10名弱の長大生や活水女子大生が参加。ほとんどの学生にとって餅つきのお手伝いは初めてで大変でしたが、とても楽しかったようで、「すっかり餅つきのプロになりました」というたくましい感想を寄せてくれました。

A senior care center located in the middle of Nagasaki city, “Sun Heights” annually holds its periodical festival to aim interaction among seniors and youngsters. Following last year, the center asked university students joining in as volunteers this year as well and nearly 10 students including 4 GP fellows were called in.

The highlight of the festival was mochi (rice cake) pounding and it was so pleasant that seniors were watching smilingly over students doing hard work of pounding superbly. No doubt about that some felt fatigue and got hurt on their arms since it was their first time trying confronting sticky and heavy rice chunk. But they all felt fulfilled and even felt like becoming a “mochi-pounding master” after all!
